The so-called Goldilocks zone (Also referred to as the "habitable zone") around a star refers to the ideal distance between a planet and a star, allowing the planet to feature both a breathable atmosphere and liquid water.
The amateur astronomers discovered PH2 b using NASA's prolific Kepler Space Telescope.
The discovery
of several new planets in this zone means that planets capable of
supporting life may be much less rare than previously believed.
The University of Oxford's Chris Lintott, has said
in a statement: "These are planet candidates that slipped through the
net, being missed by professional astronomers and rescued by volunteers in front of their web browsers. It's remarkable to think that absolutely anyone can discover a planet."
