Hague, Zarif, Westerwelle and Ashton attend the third day of closed-door nuclear talks in GenevaBy Louis Charbonneau and Yeganeh Torbati GENEVA (Reuters) - Barring a last-minute breakthrough, talks between Iran and six world powers on curbing Tehran's nuclear ambitions were set to end without an agreement on Saturday as a split emerged between France and the other Western powers, diplomats said. The latest round of talks began on Thursday and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry unexpectedly arrived on Friday to help narrow remaining differences on a deal that would freeze parts of Iran's atomic program in exchange for sanctions relief. Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that if there was no agreement this weekend, "the process will continue in one week or 10 days". French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius also said it was not clear the delegations would succeed in nailing down an acceptable interim deal that would begin to defuse fears of a stealthy Iranian advance towards nuclear arms capability.

The shutdown's surprise effect on jobs numbers

President Barack Obama speaks at the Port of New Orleans, Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, in New Orleans. The government shutdown may have affected October's jobs numbers. But not how you think. For weeks, the White House had been bracing for a bad report on hiring. Like pregame analysts ahead of a lopsided sports match, White House economists and aides lowered expectations and blamed October's partial government shutdown for the inevitable bad news to come. Then Friday's numbers materialized and stunned the prognosticators. Employers appeared to have ignored the shutdown and hired away to the tune of 204,000 jobs in October. Israel is the only suspect in the 2004 death of Yasser Arafat, Tawfik Tirawi, the chief Palestinian investigator in the case, said Friday, a day after Swiss scientists said the Palestinian leader was probably poisoned by radioactive polonium. (AP Photo/Majdi Mohammed)RAMALLAH, West Bank (AP) — Four investigations, hundreds of testimonies and stacks of medical reports on Yasser Arafat's unexplained death in 2004 have failed to produce hard evidence of what killed him — and findings presented Friday only created more confusion.
