The two, who were dressed in women's clothes and may be transgender, tried to ram a sport utility vehicle into an entrance gate at the spy agency's Fort Meade, Maryland, headquarters, a senior U.S. official said. Several federal law enforcement officials told Reuters two people tried to ram the gate and then attempted a U-turn. NSA guards began firing at the vehicle, one of the officials said.

By Scott Malone BOSTON (Reuters) - Two of the people killed in the Boston Marathon bombing were torn apart by one of the blasts that ripped through runners and onlookers at the finish line, medical examiners testified on Monday as prosecutors wound up their case against accused bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and defense attorneys began calling witnesses. Massachusetts' Chief Medical Examiner Henry Nields showed the jury 8-year-old Martin Richard's bloodstained gray New England Patriots T-shirt with holes that correlated with injuries to the child's torso. On the 15th day of testimony in Tsarnaev's trial at Boston federal court, Nields said a piece of shrapnel appeared to have gone straight through Richard's body. Shrapnel from the same homemade pressure cooker bomb that killed Richard punched through Chinese exchange student Lingzi Lu's legs, causing the 23-year old to bleed to death within minutes, Boston medical examiner Katherine Lindstrom testified.

Forensic teams have isolated 78 distinct DNA strands from body parts at the Germanwings crash site in the French Alps, while investigators continued their grim task in the arduous mountain terrain. As well as trying to identify and return bodies to their families, search teams were also hunting for a second "black box" that has yet to be found six days into the search. "We haven't found a single body intact," said Patrick Touron, deputy director of the police's criminal research institute. So far, forensic teams have isolated 78 DNA strands from recovered body parts, said prosecutor Brice Robin, one of the lead investigators.
