| New Orleans judge declares Robert Durst major flight risk, denies bail Posted: 23 Mar 2015 11:27 AM PDT By Jonathan Kaminsky NEW ORLEANS (Reuters) - Robert Durst, the real estate scion awaiting extradition to California to face a murder charge, was denied bail on Monday after a judge deemed him to be a potential danger to others and a likely flight risk. Durst, recently featured in the HBO documentary "The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst," must remain in Louisiana on local weapons charges at least until his next court date on April 2, Magistrate Judge Harry Cantrell ruled. Durst's lawyer, Dick DeGuerin, did not seek bail at the hearing, but argued his client's recent arrest and the search of his hotel room in New Orleans were improper. Durst's attorneys are seeking to expedite his extradition to Los Angeles County, where he has been charged with the 2000 murder of longtime friend Susan Berman, and have challenged the basis for his arrest on a Los Angeles County murder warrant earlier this month in New Orleans.

| Texts, laptop files in focus at Boston bomb trial Posted: 23 Mar 2015 10:53 AM PDT By Richard Valdmanis BOSTON (Reuters) - Jurors in the trial of accused Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev were shown text messages on Monday that prosecutors say he sent to a friend shortly after the attack, saying: "U saw the news?... Better not text me my friend." FBI computer specialist Kevin Swindon said the texts came from Tsarnaev's iPhone and were sent to Dias Kadyrbayev, a school friend from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, who has since pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice for removing evidence from Tsarnaev's dorm room. Swindon said he identified the texts from a backup file on Tsarnaev's laptop.

| U.S. top court rejects challenge to Wisconsin voter ID law Posted: 23 Mar 2015 08:55 AM PDT By Lawrence Hurley WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday rejected a challenge to Wisconsin's Republican-backed law requiring voters to present photo identification to cast a ballot, a measure Democrats contend is aimed at keeping their supporters from voting. The justices declined to hear an appeal filed by the American Civil Liberties Union, which challenged the law. The ACLU said it then filed an emergency motion with a federal appeals court to try to keep the law from taking effect immediately. Republican Wisconsin Attorney General Brad Schimel said the law cannot be implemented for the state's April 7 election because absentee ballots are already in the hands of voters but would be in place for future elections.

| Tunisian president says third suspect in museum attack on the run Posted: 22 Mar 2015 11:28 AM PDT Tunisia's President Beji Caid Essebsi said on Sunday that a third gunman involved in an attack that killed 23 people, mostly foreign tourists, at a Tunis museum last week was on the run. The shootings at the museum inside Tunisia's parliament compound was one of the worst militant attacks in Tunisian history and brought to light the threat posed by Islamist militants to the young democracy, four years after its "Arab Spring" revolt. Some had recently returned from fighting for Islamist militant groups in Syria and Libya. "For sure there were three because they have been identified and filmed on surveillance cameras," Essebsi said in a televised interview with Europe 1 radio, iTELE and Le Monde newspaper.
