The president, his wife Michelle and their two teenaged daughters attended the Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia, its pews filled with congregants who could barely contain their excitement over the visit. "How fitting that on the day we celebrate the rising of our Lord and Savior, we also welcome our sitting president," Pastor Howard-John Wesley said to applause from enthusiastic worshippers, whom he urged to keep their cellphones in their pockets and purses. The Resurrection is indeed real," read the message, retweeted by the Alfred Baptist Church from its own Twitter account.

The prevailing sentiment in part reflects the history of the Southern California's Iranian community, made up of those in the earliest wave of migration after Iran's 1979 revolution. Many are still distrustful of the Iranian government. A rollback of U.S. sanctions, which have contributed to Iran's skyrocketing inflation and inability to obtain Western medical supplies, will do little to improve the lives of ordinary people, many expatriates say.


Dozens arrested near University of Kentucky after Final Four loss

(Reuters) - Thirty-one people were arrested overnight near the University of Kentucky after the school's previously undefeated men's basketball team was knocked out the NCAA's Final Four tournament in a semi-final loss to Wisconsin, police said on Sunday. Hundreds of fans flooded the streets around the school's Lexington, Kentucky campus after the Wisconsin Badgers stunned the No. 1-ranked Wildcats with a 71-64 win in Indianapolis. Kentucky had been a favorite to win the tournament. Those arrested face charges including public intoxication and disorderly conduct, Lexington Police Sgt. Scott May said.
