A U.S. citizen died in the attack on a luxury hotel in Bamako, Mali, where armed Islamist militants took hostages on Friday, the U.S. State Department said. Six Americans were recovered safely and U.S. special forces assisted in the rescue efforts, U.S. officials said earlier. The State Department, in a statement, identified the victim as Anita Datar.

At least one suspect from the deadly Paris attacks is at large and was last seen crossing into Belgium.

By Lisa Baertlein LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - More than 40 people have fallen ill with E. coli food poisoning after eating at Chipotle Mexican Grill restaurants in six different states, federal health officials said on Friday, sending shares of the burrito chain to an 18-month low. The outbreak expanded with new Chipotle-linked E. coli cases reported in California, Ohio, New York and Minnesota, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said. The CDC said 45 people got sick from the E. coli O26 outbreak strain, and of those, 43 reported eating at Chipotle.

Three protesters were removed from a Minneapolis city council meeting on Friday after they voiced disapproval over how city leaders have handled the investigation of Sunday's police killing of an unarmed African-American man. The protesters interrupted a regular council meeting to complain about the way the city handles police misconduct issues. Jamar Clark, 24, died on Monday night after his family decided to disconnect life support.

Investigators were still trying to work out what happened during the assault in the Bronx, in which one woman was found with multiple stab wounds to her torso, the New York City police said. The victim appeared to have been pregnant and the baby might have been cut from her stomach, the New York Times reported, citing comments made by New York City councilman Andy King.

Belgium raised its terror alert to the highest level in the capital Brussels on Saturday, with the OCAM national crisis centre warning of an "imminent threat" a week after the Paris attacks. "Following our latest evaluation... the centre has raised its terror alert to level 4, signifying a very serious threat, for the Brussels region," it said, as Europe tightens security after Islamic State militants killed 130 people in the French capital. "The analysis shows a serious and imminent threat requiring specific security measures as well as detailed recommendations to the population," said OCAM, which is part of the Belgian interior ministry, in a statement.
